OpenBroadcaster - Storm Streaming Cloud

In this tutorial, we will show you how to use OpenBroadcast (OBS) to connect with the Storm Streaming Cloud service. OpenBroadcaster is exceptionally easy to use, while at the same time being a powerful streaming multitool.

Connection Setup

  1. Let's start with OpenBroadcaster itself. After launching the application, we select the "Settings" option in the bottom right corner. A settings window will appear, where we select the "Stream" tab on the left side.

  2. Being already in the "Stream" tab, we need to choose the right type of service. We switch the "Service" option to "Custom".

  3. Now we need to copy our stream data. After creating the stream in the Cloud panel, on the "Summary" subpage, we will find all the necessary data to make the connection. We copy the URL, StreamKey, and after enabling authorization, also the Username and Password.

  4. Now, simply confirm the changes by clicking the "OK" button, and in the main program window, you can start streaming by selecting the "Start Streaming" option. If everything is in order, a green square will light up in the bottom right corner.

Encoder Setup

  1. On the main program screen, select "Settings" from the menu and go to the "Output" tab.

  2. Change the "Output Mode" (at the top) to "Advanced".

  3. Choose the x264 encoder. It is recommended and well-tested. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can try selecting the NVENC option.

    Further encoder settings:

    1. Rate Control - Choose CBR for the best option.
    2. Bitrate - Use the table below to select the appropriate value based on your target stream resolution and frames per second (fps).

    3. Keyframe Interval - 1s
    4. CPU Usage Preset - ultrafast
    5. Profile - high
    6. Tune - zerolatency
    Choose encoder (The recommended choice here is "x264" or if you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can try selecting the &quotNVENC" option) and encoder settings.
  4. Set the correct video resolution. Go to the "Video" tab. You will find two parameters: "Base (Canvas) Resolution" and "Output (Scaled) Resolution." Set both to your target resolution. For FPS value we suggest to set it to 30.

  5. Finally, confirm the settings by clicking the "OK" button, and you're ready to start streaming!
